The Minnesota International Center (MIC) is Minnesota's primary facilitator of foreign policy discussions available to the public.[1] The MIC is not officially part of the University of Minnesota, but it is located on the university's campus.[2] The Global Programs and Strategy Alliance operates out of the MIC.[3] The MIC selects teachers to travel to Turkey to participate in the Teacher Study Tour program, operated by the Turkish Cultural Foundation.[4] Every year, the MIC hosts a fundraising dinner dedicated to a different country.[5] In 1998, the dinner was dedicated to Brazil.[6] Josephine Benz Carpenter was the MIC's director from 1987 until 1990.[7] Emily Anne Tuttle also served in this position for a time.[8] Abbas Mehdi became a member of the MIC's board in 1997.[9] In 2002, the MIC partnered with the Rosenmeier Center for State and Local Government and the Brainerd Lakes Area Chambers of Commerce to host a presentation by Robert Flaten called "Iraq, the U.N. and the Politics of Preemption".[10]
