Mireille Eagan
Mireille Eagan (born 1982) is a Canadian arts writer and curator. She is the niece of composer and songwriter Edmund Eagan. She is also granddaughter of cold weather physiologist Charles Eagan.[1]
Career
Mireille Eagan was born in Calgary, Alberta in 1982 and grew up in Whitehorse, Yukon and Fredericton, New Brunswick. She is a graduate of Mount Allison University (Bachelor of Arts in Art History) and Concordia University (Masters of Arts in Art History). She was Curator at the Confederation Centre Art Gallery in Prince Edward Island from November 2008 to July 2010. She is currently Curator of Contemporary Art at The Rooms in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. She was Curator of Canadian Art from 2011 to 2013.
Eagan has written for several catalogs, magazines, and newspapers and is a contributor to Border Crossings, C Magazine, [here] magazine,[2] Inuit Art Quarterly, and Visual Arts News.[3] She was arts columnist for the Daily Gleaner.[4][5]
Curatorial work
Mireille Eagan has curated exhibitions with Struts Gallery,[6] FOFA Gallery, Doris McCarthy Gallery, The Rooms, Confederation Centre Art Gallery,[7][8] and the National Gallery of Canada.
55th Venice Biennale
In 2013, Peter Wilkins and Will Gill were officially selected by curator Massimiliano Gioni to exhibit as a collateral project with the 55th Venice Biennale. Organised by the Terra Nova Art Foundation, the exhibition was titled About Turn: Newfoundland in Venice, Will Gill & Peter Wilkins.[9][10] The exhibition was co-curated by Mireille Eagan and Bruce Johnson. It was on display at Galleria Ca'Rezzonico until November 24, 2013.[11]
Performance
At the age of 11, Mireille Eagan performed the theme song for Katie and Orbie,[12] an animated television series aimed at preschoolers, originally broadcast in Canada in 1994 by Family Channel. The show later aired in the United States on PBS from 1995–1997 and on Disney Channel from 1997-2000. In Canada, the series still airs on Family and Playhouse Disney. It also airs on the Latin American version of CBeebies.
