Mitchell Pass

Mitchell Pass looking east

Mitchell Pass is a gap through the Wildcat Hills near Scottsbluff, Nebraska, immediately south of Scotts Bluff National Monument, and directly west of Gering, Nebraska.

History

After 1851, Mitchell Pass replaced Robidoux Pass as the preferred route through the sand hills of western Nebraska on the Emigrant Trail, as it eliminated a detour to the south more distant from the North Platte River.[1]

Modern highway through the pass

A branch of Nebraska Highway 92 now passes through the gap.
