History
Mobara Station opened on April 17, 1897 as Mohara Station (茂原駅 Mohara-eki) on the BÅsÅ Railway. It was absorbed into the Japanese Government Railways on September 1, 1907. From 1909-1926 it was also the terminal of the ChÅnan-Mobara-Kan Jinsha KidÅ (åºå—茂原間人車軌é“), a human-powdered railway extending to ChÅnan, Chiba. On August 1, 1930, the station became the terminus of the NansÅ Railway (å—ç·é‰„é“ NansÅ TetsudÅ), which became the SotobÅ Line from 1939. It was renamed to its present name on July 10, 1935. It joined the JR East network upon the privatization of the Japanese National Railways (JNR) on April 1, 1987.
