Mobovivo is a Canadian software company, with offices in Venice Beach California, that enables broadcasters and other video content publishers to distribute television shows on various devices. The company provides second screen solutions[1] that sync to broadcast television and offer apps across the entire content life cycle, including pre-release, broadcast and home entertainment.

History

Mobovivo was founded by entrepreneur, TV producer and author Trevor Doerksen. In 2006, it became the first company to offer legal television content for the iPod in Canada, beating Apple to market.[2]

In 2007, the company signed a deal with DivX to allow DivX to bundle Mobovivo television shows with their consumer system.[3] In 2009 Mobovivo was profiled as one of IDC Canada's "10 Canadian Mobile Consumer and Enterprise Solutions to Watch".[4]

In May 2009, Mobovivo announced distribution for top ten hit TV program, The Tudors, a BBC, CBC, and Showtime co-production.[5] In June 2009, the company announced distribution for BBC Worldwide programming.[6]

In January 2012, Mobovivo and Cinram announced[7] a strategic partnership at the CES in Las Vegas. The focus of the partnership was to turn every TV show and film that was placed on DVD or Blu-ray by Cinram a companion app powered by Mobovivo software by 2013.[8]

In February 2012, Mobovivo and actor Adrian Grenier announced[9] its companion app platform with the release of the actor's indie film companies app, Reckless Adrian Grenier.[10]

In July, 2012, Mobovivo and AXS TV officially launched the first sports TV network synced second screen app for MMA [11]

In November, 2012, Mobovivo and Globo TV launched a primetime smartphone ad campaign for the TV series Suburbia.[12]

In Dec, 2012 Mobovivo, Epitome Pictures, Much Music, and Bitheads launched the Degrassi (franchise) TV Chat App [13]

In October, 2013, Mobovivo and ESPN launched the ESPN Sync second screen app.[14]

Awards and Recognition

In October 2011, Mobovivo was named one of Deloitte's Top 10 Companies to watch.[15]

On March 16, 2012, Mobovivo was selected by MIPTV as one of the world's Top 10 TV Disrupters.[16]

On June 4, 2012, Mobovivo was awarded the best cross platform development for its second screen companion app for HDNet.[17]

On Nov. 8, 2012, Mobovivo was awarded Top 10 Up and Coming Technology Companies to Watch by PWC in a ceremony in Toronto.[18]

Trevor Doerksen

In addition to founding Mobovivo and serving as its CEO, Trevor Doerksen has written numerous articles about the internet and video technology. He is also the author of a chapter in Handbook on Information Technologies for Education and Training.[19]

Trevor Doerksen completed an M.Sc. at the University of Calgary on Content Repurposing Theory in 2002.[20][21]

In April 2010, Trevor was awarded the People's Choice Award for Entrepreneur of the Year by Digital Alberta.[22] In July 2010, Trevor was named one of Alberta's 50 most influential people.[23]
