Modernizing Medicine
Modernizing Medicine, Inc., is a software company headquartered at the Research Park at Florida Atlantic University[1] in Boca Raton, Florida. The company has two co-founders: Daniel Cane,[2] CEO and co-founder of Blackboard, Inc.,[3] and Dr. Michael Sherling,[4] Chief Medical Officer and a practicing dermatologist.
The company makes electronic health records for doctors, and currently has software for dermatologists, ophthalmologists, plastic surgeons, cosmetic surgeons, ENTs (or otolaryngologists), and orthopedic surgeons. Modernizing Medicine has a business model that employs practicing doctors to write the software for each specialty.[5][6][7]
In March 2014, the company was chosen to participate in the IBM Watson Ecosystem in partnership with JAMA Dermatology.[8] Dermatologists were able to ask questions, describe symptoms or search for information and statistics about different conditions. The goal was to give dermatologists a source of evidence-based data that they can use to guide treatments for patients.
