The Mohammad Hassani (or Mamasanis) are a large Baloch tribe (sunni muslims) living in the districts of Chagai, Kharan, Washuk, Kalat, Awaran, Khuzdar, Quetta, Nushki, Mastung, Panjgur and Makran in Balochistan and Sindh and Panjab. They also have notable presence in Helmand (Afghanistan), Zahidan (Iran) and Iraq. According to some estimates ,their population is 55000 in Pakistan.Sardar Arif Jan of Mashkay headed the tribe for many years till he was killed in a tribal clash. They speak several languages including Balochi, Brahui, and Persian. The current tribal chief of the Mohammad Hassanis in Pakistan is Sardar Shahbaz Khan Hassani but most of the subtribes are loyal to Sardarzadeh Ali Haider of Mashkey (the younger son of Sardar Arif Jan Shaheed). There are many subtribes of Mohammad Hassnis ,namely Durrakzai (largest),Kalmalizai,Harooni, Mandawzai, Eidozai, Chakarzai,Bakhalzai,Zeerkari, Nazarzai, Khiyyazai and Shahaqzai. Mohammad Hassanis take Hazrat Abbas R.A. (parental uncle of Prophet Mohammad) as their ancesstor, hence some of them (those who live in Panjab) like to be called Abbasi.
