History

Momentive was formed in 2006 by the sale of General Electric Advanced Materials business to Apollo Management LP. The former GE joint ventures of GE Bayer Silicones and GE Toshiba Silicones became part of the newly formed company. The sale was completed for a total consideration of $3.8 billion.

On September 13, 2010, Apollo Management LP - the parent holding company of Momentive Performance Materials Inc. and Hexion Specialty Chemicals, Inc., - announced an agreement under which they will merge the companies under a common holding company, creating a global leader in specialty chemicals and materials.[2]

In April 2014, Momentive Performance Materials filed for bankruptcy.[3] In October 2014 Momentive Performance Materials Operations Completes U.S. Financial Restructuring and Emerges From Chapter 11.[4]
