Monkton is a village and parish in Pembroke, Pembrokeshire, Wales. According to the United Kingdom Census 2001, there are 1,688 inhabitants of the village.[1]

Monkton was ranked the 14th most disadvantaged place in Wales in 2000[2] and was given access to the Communities First programme.[3]

Education

Monkton has a primary school called "Monkton Priory Community Primary School" which has approximately 221 pupils.[4] It also has a dedicated centre for gypsy traveller learners known as the "Monkton Priory School Project".[5]

Community

A large part of the community consists of gypsy travellers and reside at a gypsy site called "Castle Quarry" (formerly known as Catshole Quarry)[6]

Pembrokeshire Action to Combat Hardship has a base in the village.
