Mont Rose College of Management & Sciences (MRC) is a Further Education and Higher Education college. The institution is located in the Ilford area of London, England,[1] which provides teaching, research and public service in the context of general education, student development and continuing education.[2]

Background

Mont Rose College of Management and Sciences (MRC), located in Ilford, London, was founded in 2006. Mont Rose was previously known as the M-R College of Management and Sciences, until it changed its name in 2009.[3]

MRC moved to new premises in Ilford, Essex, in September 2014 but it retains its administrative offices and one classroom in Leyton on a temporary basis in order to meet existing student needs and facilitate the transition to the new site. The Students indicate that the move has been managed effectively and that the new premises, which include more facilities like air-conditioned teaching rooms, a well stocked library and computing facilities are an improvement on the previous accommodation.

The word Mont, via Latin and then Old French, describe mountains. According to the college’s website, the use of the word mont in the college’s title gives the impression of height and might. The use of the word rose represents beautiful, delicate and higher ideals.[4]

The college motto is "Self-actualization through striving for higher ideals".

Mont Rose’s coat of arms was designed to demonstrate the meaning of the college’s name, while also including parts of the college motto. The use of colors was selected by the college to show a number of different things about the college. The use of blue is to demonstrate Truth and Loyalty. It is said that many in Bible passages, that blue was the color for truth.[5] Loyalty and trust are also commonly associated with the color blue. The use of silver within the coat of arms, is supposed to symbolize peace and sincerity.[6]

The design of the coat of arms includes roses, which is a mark of the seventh son, as well as hope and joy.[7] The motif represents knowledge and British heritage, which is presented through the use of a crown and a book. The MRC is a representation of the college’s name.[8]

Higher and further education

Mont Rose College of Management and Sciences offers Diploma qualifications to students, including HNC and HND diplomas.

The college provides subjects across 3 main areas, Business, English and Hospitality/Tourism. The Business and Hospitality and Tourism Management schools provide courses at an HNC and HND level of study. The English school on the other hand, provides ESOL, CALLAN and Pre-Sessional English courses.

Standards

The college is an approved Confederation of Tourism and Hospitality (CTH) college and provides postgraduate level courses. This approval helped the college to become known internationally, and regularly provides hospitality and tourism courses to International students. The college is also said to have close links to hotel, airline and tourist organizations.[9]

QAA assessments

The Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) monitoring visit serves as a short check on the institution's continuing management of academic standards and quality of provision. It focuses on progress since the previous review. In addition, it provides an opportunity for QAA to advise the provider of any matters that have the potential to be of particular interest in the next monitoring visit or review.

Most recently, the QAA review team concludes that from the evidence provided in the annual return and at the monitoring visit, Mont Rose College of Management and Sciences Ltd (the College) has made commendable progress with implementing the action plan from the October 2013 Review for Educational Oversight.[10]

The QAA review team documented its confidence in how the college manages its stated responsibilities for the standards of the programmes it offers, the quality and enhancement of the learning opportunities it offers on behalf of the awarding organisations including Pearson.[11]
