Al-haj Mohammad Mosaddak Ali Falu (born 7 April 1960 [1]) is a Bangladeshi politician[2] and a former parliamentarian from Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). He served as the political secretary to the Prime Minister of Bangladesh Begum Khaleda Zia between 2001 and 2006.

Corruption charges were brought against him after the tenure of BNP-led government. During the military-backed government in 2007-2008, several corruption cases were filed against this popular leader following his arrest. He, however, now enjoys bail in all cases from the High Court. [3]

Mosaddak Ali is also widely known as a successful businessman, who has made significant contribution to the country’s trade and industry. He is the President of the Association of Television Channel Owners (ATCO) in Bangladesh.

Political career

Al-haj Mohammad Mosaddak Ali joined politics in 1979. In the 1980s he was active in anti-autocracy protests.

As a BNP organiser and political secretary to the prime minister, he rejuvenated party leaders and activists and strengthened party bases across the country. His activities made him popular to his comrades and trusted to the party leadership. He also earned trust form the then Prime Minister and BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia. Evidence of this closeness includes Mosaddak Ali being delegated important duties.

He resigned as a political secretary and became a lawmaker from Ramna-Tejgaon constituency [Dhaka 10] for 2004-2006.[4]

Parliamentarian

In light of Khaleda Zia's two-way loyalty strategy Mosaddak Ali was allowed to contest for the 2004 by-elections for the Dhaka 10 constituency and he secured victory. On 4 July 2004, the speaker of Parliament Barrister Muhammad Jamiruddin Sircar administered oath to Mosaddek Ali Falu as a lawmaker.

Business

Mosaddak Ali is the founder, managing director, and chairman of International Television Channel – NTV, a news and programme-based television service. In addition to the channel’s broadcasting, NTV Online, a bilingual (Bangla & English) infotainment portal covering latest news, Live TV, entertainment programme, sports, tech, lifestyle and more, was founded on 1 February 2015.

He was also the founder and ex-chairman of private television channel National Television Ltd (RTV), and Bangla newspaper Amar Desh. Given that NTV's news is avidly followed in the country, Mosaddak Ali can be considered a media mogul. He was also a former chairman of International Finance Investment and Commerce Bank Limited (IFIC Bank).

Besides, he is the chairman of Dhaka-Shanghai Ceramics Limited, a joint venture with Chinese investors; chairman of MAH Securities Ltd., member of Dhaka Stock Exchange Ltd., director of Union Insurance Company Ltd., chairman of Roza Agro Ltd., chairman of Roza Properties Ltd. — a real estate company, director of Rakeen development Co. (Bd) Ltd. — a multinational real-estate company; director of S.M. Aabashon Ltd. — a Land development company; director of Ashlaoy Housing & Development Ltd. — a land development company; director of Star Porcelain Ltd.— an export oriented ceramic industry, chairman of Roza Industrial Park Ltd. — a big industrial development company in Bangladesh, and chairman of the Cox Today Limited— a 4 star standard Luxury Hotel at Cox’s Bazar, largest tourist spot in Bangladesh.

Club membership/endorsement

Al-haj Mohammad Mosaddak Ali is a member of Dhaka Club, Gulshan Club, Uttara Club, Kurmitola Golf Club, All Community Club, National Press Club, Baridhara Cosmopolitan Club, and Dhaka Boat Club. He was the former president of Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited. He served as the president of the club for 23 years.

A socialite

Al-haj Mohammad Mosaddak Ali has founded Abdus Sobhan Madrasa and Orphanage, Ramonbibi Women Madrasa and Orphanage, Abdul Mannan Islami Library, Abdul Mannan Degree College, Khaleda Zia Old Home, Ramonbibi Crescent Matrisadon and Shishu Swastho Kendra (Mother and Child Health Centre) and Mahbuba Child Care. All these organisations are regulated under Mosaddak Ali Foundation.
