History

Formation and name

Motspur Park FC was originally formed, in 2013, by breakaway coaches of the Semi-Professional club Tooting & Mitcham United F.C. and relatives of the coaches. In 2014 Motpsur Park FC affiliated to the Surrey County Football Association and the Surrey Youth League in preparation for the 2014/15 season.

First Season (2014/15)

Motspur Park ran only two teams in the 2014/15 season; an Under 12's and an Under 16's both of which participated in the Surrey Youth League. Pat Jack manager of the Under 12's managed to secure promotion in the clubs first season from Division 4 into Division 3. As later mentioned the club managed to acclaim its first accolade in its first season, the Charter Standard Club Award.

Second Season (2015/16)

As the success and development of the club gained momentum the club managed to establish a presence within the local community. The increased publicity meant that Motspur Park FC were able to expand their youth section and start the clubs first ever adult team. The club which started with two teams was now providing the community with 7 Youth teams and an open aged Adult team. The 2015/16 season saw numerous developments in the clubs structure and public image which enabled the club to visit Ipswich Town and play their development centres, achieve the second highest level of the Charter Standard Scheme (Development Club) and finish the season with two teams securing winners medals and promotion. The club also participated in the Poppies4Kit Scheme.[1]

Club Crest

Motspur Park's crest is made up of a lion facing towards the right. The lion symbol was introduced at the clubs inception in 2014 and is not believed to represent any particular meaning. The lion on the badge provided the inspiration for the club mascot, leo who got his name from a shortening of the Lion's scientific name, Panthera Leo. Leo is yet to make an official physical appearance and has only been seen used in promotional media.

No previous club crests have existed.

Shirt Sponsors

The first team shirt sponsorship is currently held with ActionAid. The two-year deal with ActionAid was entered at the start of the 2015–16 season in which arrangements were made to present the ActionAid logo on the front of players' kits. The first ever sponsor of the Motspur Park First Team was ActionAid.

Accolades

In January 2015 Motspur Park FC were awarded the Charter Standard Club Status.[2] The club received the award half way through their first season a record breaking achievement for any new club. Motspur Park continued their success and managed to secure Charter Standard Development Club Status just a year later in January 2016.[3]
