Mount Kelly is a fully co-educational independent day and boarding school for children between the ages of 3 and 18.[1]
Mount Kelly was established in June 2014 following the merger of two neighbouring Schools, Kelly College (founded in 1877) and Mount House School (founded in 1881).[2]
Location
Mount Kelly is located in Tavistock, Devon and is situated within the Tavy River valley on the edge of the Dartmoor National Park, between Exeter and Plymouth.[3] Positioned on the outskirts of the market town of Tavistock the school grounds consist of 140 acres of landscaped grounds, woodland, forest, green fields and a small holding.[4]
Co-Curricular Activities
Mount Kelly offers a co-curricular activity programme, College pupils can take part in the Combined Cadet Force, the Duke of Edinburgh Awards, the Devizes to Westminster International Canoe Race or the Ten Tors Challenge.[5]
Academic staff, in collaboration with the onsite Adventure Centre, run the Learning Outside the Classroom Programme. Children in the Pre-Prep attend a weekly Forest School activity. The Shackleton programme is run for 9 to 13 year olds and designed to give them increasingly challenging outdoor experiences.[6]
Boarding
Boarding is available on a full, day or flexible basis. Pupils can board from Year 3 to Year 8 at the Prep School. At the College, four houses are allocated; boys in Year 9-11, girls in Year 9-11, a Sixth Form boys’ house and a Sixth Form girls’ house respectively.[7]
Swimming
The Head Coach is the former Olympian, Robin Brew. Pupils and alumni have won a total of 29 Olympic and Commonwealth medals over the last 37 years and been selected for the last five Olympic and Paralympic games. Sharron Davies and Andy Jameson as two of its most celebrated swimmers.[8]
Mount Kelly have begun building the new 50 metre, 8 lane Olympic Legacy Swimming Pool financed, in part, by Sport England[9]
Inspections
The school was last inspected by the Independent Schools Inspectorate in March 2015.[10]
Admissions
Entry requirements vary according to year group and are a combination of assessments, taster days and visits.[11]
Fees 2015/2016
Annual day fees: £6,375 to £16,440 (GBP)
Annual weekly boarding fees: £14,970 to £26,790 (GBP)
Annual full boarding fees: £16,320 to £28,740 (GBP)[12]
