Movement (stylized as MOVEMENT) is an Australian minimal soul band, blending R&B and ambient music. Their self-titled debut EP was released in 2014.

History

Formation (2011)

Movement was formed in Sydney, Australia, in 2011, consisting of Sean Walker (percussion), Jesse James Ward (bass and vocals) and Lewis Wade (vocals and keys).[1] Walker and Ward attended high school together.[2] Their music has been called "minimal soul,"[3] as well as "psychedelic" and "body music."[1][4] The songs have elements of R&B, ambient, soul and pop music.[5]

Movement EP (2012-present)

The band's second single, "Us", was named a Best New Track on Pitchfork in September 2013,[3] as was the third single, "Like Lust", in March 2014.[4] The video for the fourth single, "Ivory", was directed by Fleur & Manu.[6]

Movement's debut self-titled four-track EP was released on May 6, 2014, with additional production and mixing from Illangelo.[5][7]

Performances

Movement performed at the 2014 Pitchfork Music Festival Paris[8] and the 2015 Primavera Festival in Spain.[9] They opened for Banks on her North American tour in the fall of 2014,[10] opened for Darkside on a tour of Australia,[2][11] and have also opened for Solange.[4]
