Old Age and Financial difficulties

Mubarak Begum was reported to be living in a one-bedroom house in the Mumbai suburb of Jogeshwari. Her daughter is suffering from Parkinson's disease and her son freelances as a driver. NDTV reported that she was earning a pension of Rupees 700 (about 12 USD) per month, while another Indian newspaper, DNA, while reporting on her financial condition said that she was earning Rupees 3000 per month, both amounts being paltry by Indian standards.[2] Her financial condition led to a tweet by BJP leader Sushma Swaraj.[3]
