Muir Homes is one of the largest privately owned housebuilding companies of Scotland.[1] Based in Inverkeithing, Fife, it is part of the J. W. Muir Group, one of the country's leading property development companies. It specialises in timber-framed construction of homes and flats.
John Muir, one of the richest men in Scotland, set up Muir Homes in 1973.[3] A former joiner, he became Managing Director of Scothomes, part of Scottish Homes, before leaving to set up the company.[4]
Muir Group's other business interests includes a golf course, commercial property and a timber company.[5] In 2010, total staffing had reduced from a peak of 384 to 320 due to the recession.[2]
