Mukkoottuthara is a village located in Kottayam district of Kerala State, India. Sabarimala is only 45 kilometers from Erumely, while travelling through Mukkoottuthara. The roads passing through Mukkoottuthara are upgraded and maintained as State Highways. The main cultivation is rubber. There are Rubber estates. Mukkoottuthara is famous for bamboo products (Muram, Kutta, Parampu, etc.). One of the famous tourist spots – Perumthenaruvy (the waterfall in Pampa river, where the entire river falls to about 20 feet) is just 5 kilometers from Mukkoottuthara.Mukkoottuthara is located 7 km away from Erumely and 8 km from pambavalley. Sree krishana swami temple here is an icon of religions harmony.The border of Kottayam and Pathanamthitta divides Mukkoottuthara into two. However Mukkoottuthara is recorded as part of Kottayam district only.
