Mullappally illam

Mullappally Illam, Cheriyoor
Mullappally Illam is an ancient Nambudiri (Brahmin) home situates in Cheriyoor village in Perinchelloor Gramam (Taliparamba) in Kannur District, Kerala. This 200-year-old structure was built as an 'ettukettu', a traditional style of architecture of Kerala. 'Ettu' means 'eight' and 'Kettu' means 'built up sides. This is the ancestral home of famous Malayalam-language poet and translator Kerala Varma Valiya Koil Thampuran (February 19, 1845 – 1914). His father Narayanan Nambudiri was a member of Mullappally Illam.
