The Multi Access Video Disk Recorder (MAV) is a video recorder based on a hard disk and used in television studios.
Overview
According to the manual to the MAV-555, the MAV is "a multi-access video disk recorder that provides images compressed in compliance with MPEG-2 4:2:2 Profile @ Main Level"[1]
To the general public, the MAV could be viewed as similar to a digital recording system such as TiVo or Sky+
They are manufactured by Sony, like many VTR's popular in previous generations, such as those for Beta SP and DigiBeta.
MAV's are on the market in the region of $56,700.[2]
