Munroe Regional Medical Center

Munroe Regional Medical Center is an acute care community hospital in Ocala, Florida. The medical center provides emergency care, heart and vascular center, home health care, pediatrics, stroke center as well as a wide range of other medical services.

Overview

The medical center is the largest employer in Marion County, Florida with 421 licensed beds, 2,600 associates, 450 physicians and 1,600 volunteers. Munroe Regional admits over 22,000 patients each year, treats over 97,000 in three emergency departments, and sees another 51,000 for other outpatient needs. The four main service lines of the medical center include Heart, Orthopedics, Bariatrics and Surgery. In July, 2012 Munroe opened its Heart Failure unit and a month later opened its doors on a brand new Children's Emergency Room.

The medical center is accredited by the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Health Care Organizations (JCAHO).

History

Munroe Regional has been in business for 114-years. It was named in honor of community leader T.T. Munroe, a major supporter of the hospital in its early years. The first building of the current hospital complex was completed in 1928. The hospital has undergone extensive expansion over the years.

Board Members and Executive Management

The Munroe Regional Board meets every last Monday of the month and is made up of 13 members. Steve Purves, FACHE joined Munroe Regional Medical Center as President and Chief Executive Officer in September 2006 and has served in positions with both the American Hospital Association and Florida Hospital Association. He is current Chair of the Florida Hospital Association's Advocacy Committee. Steve Purvis has been gone for a while and CHS (Community Health Systems) under CEO Bob Moore now run the hospital as of May 1, 2014.

Munroe Publications

Munroe publishes a Community Benefit Report annually which is distributed to over 85,000 households in Marion, Lake and Sumter County by way of the Star-Banner and The Villages Daily Sun. Additionally, the medical center publishes a Heart Report and a Nursing Report.
