NTM - A former Shalimar Television Network Channel

The Network Television Marketing was Pakistan's first private television channel, started in 1990 under a 3-year agreement with Shalimar Recording & Broadcasting Company (STN).[1]

NTM produced plays, stage and music shows. Youngsters including Sania Saeed, Atiqa Odho, Humayoon Saeed, Nadia Khan, Fakhr-e-Alam, Khalid Anum became comperes and announcers. MTN broadcast drama serials including Kashkol,Chand Grihan, Dasht and Nadan Nadia edited by Liaqat Ali Khan.

Initially in 1988 after the formation of Benazir Bhtto government, a semi- private television network with the name "Peoples' Television Network" (PTN) came into existence. PTN was later renamed as Shalimar TV Network, with the full patronage of Shalimar Recording Company. PTN/STN started its broadcast with CNN international on terrestrial beam from Islamabad. Later on, Karachi and Lahore stations started. 24- Hours- Broadcast was agreed upon between CNN intn'l and PTN (STN). Later, BBC World also joined in. Some of the content of the CNN and BBC were censored ,though.

In 1990, the hours of STN were purchased by NTM from 7:00PM to 11:00PM daily and 6:00PM to 11:00PM on Saturdays and Sundays. The number of viewers increased. NTM later started morning transmission. After Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad, STN started its stations countrywide.

NTM was closed down in 1999 because of continuous rivalry between PTV and STN and a financial crunch developed at STN.. Later STN was purchased by PTV, and Channel 3 came out as a combined production of STN and PTV and the satellite beam was introduced. In 2004, Channel 3 went off air . Shalimar Recording and Broadcasting Company made an agreement with a private company SSI and converted STN into ATV, a Shalimar Recording and Broadcasting Company channel which is working as a semi- private channel having terrestrial and satellite beams.
