Biography
Mykhaylo Zagirnyak graduated from Lugansk Machine Construction Institute with honors. After the graduation he worked as an engineer at the Lugansk diesel locomotive building plant. Served in the army. From 1971 till 2002 M. Zagirnyak worked as a research assistant, senior lecturer, associate professor, head of the department and pro-rector of Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University. For a several years he worked at the Universities of Kentucky and Texas as the winner of the long-term USA government grants for programs IREX (Electrical Engineering - 1983-84) and Fulbright (Education Administration - 1997-98). In November 2002 he was elected Rector of Kremenchuk Mykhailo Ostohradskyi National University and he has been the head of it till now. He is the author of more than 600 scientific papers, including nine monographs, eight brochures, four handbooks and 11 textbooks approved by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, 41 author's certificates and 31 patents for inventions. 68 and 74 works are published in professional journals included in the international databases «ISI Web of Knowledge» and «Scopus» respectively
Work Positions
He is Head of the research projects within the framework of scientific and technical cooperation between Ukraine and Slovenia (2003-2004, 2007-2008). Editor-in-chief of four and a member of the editorial boards of five national and six foreign editions.[2][3][4] Head of the Specialized Academic Council for awarding of the Ph.D and D.Sc. degrees. Member of the Scientific Council of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine (2015). Member of the North-East Scientific Center of NAS and MES of Ukraine (2015). Supervisor of the seminar on “Electromagnetic and electromechanical processes in electric machines and apparatuses” of the Ukrainian National Academy of Sciences Academic Council specialized in problem “Scientific fundamentals of electrical power engineering”. Member of the Higher School Academic Council of European and Regional Studios (Czech Budiyovice, Czech Republic). Advisor to the Chairman of the Accounting Chamber of Ukraine (2002 – 2011). First Vice-president of the Federation of Mountaineering and Climbing of Ukraine, Master of Sports of USSR (1984), Instructor-methodologist of the 1stcategory (1987) and Referee of the national category in climbing (2004). He has made more than 150 climbings in almost all parts of the world, more than 50 of which – by the routes higher than fifth and sixth degrees of complexity (17 the first ascent). Participant of five Himalayan expeditions. Multiple champion and prize-winner of Ukraine and the CIS mountaineering Championships.[5]
