NBT Bank is owned by NBT Bancorp. Headquartered in Norwich, New York, United States, the bank was founded in 1856 as The Bank of Norwich. It got a national charter in 1865 and became The National Bank of Norwich and became The National Bank and Trust Company of Norwich in 1925. It now has 86 branches in 20 counties throughout Upstate New York. The bank has recently expanded into Vermont, with two locations in Chittenden County. Mr. Martin Dietrich serves as the President and Chief Executive Officer of NBT Bank.[2]

NBT Bank owns Pennstar Bank, with 37 branches throughout northeastern Pennsylvania.
City National Bank and Trust Company
In February 2006, the bank acquired Gloversville-based City National Bank and Trust Company.[3]
Merger with Alliance Bank
On March 8, 2013, NBT Bank completed the merger with Alliance Financial Corporation successfully.[4]
Naming rights
NBT Bank owns the naming rights to NBT Bank Stadium in Syracuse.
