NZMuseums

NZMuseums is a website which provides digital access to around 400 of New Zealand's museums and galleries and their collections. It includes a directory of museums and galleries, and an on-line collection management system. NZMuseums enables the several hundred small volunteer-run museums throughout New Zealand to have a digital presence. NZMuseums is an initiative of National Services Te Paerangi, a team at the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa, in Wellington, New Zealand.

Approximately 85% of New Zealand's museums are small, volunteer-run and do not have the resources to set up a customised website.[1] The website is designed to meet this need and runs using eHive, an on-line collections management system provided by Vernon Systems Ltd. eHive is particularly suited to smaller museums as it allows free use initially for low levels of use, and then graded charges depending on usage. It provides the tools for smaller, volunteer-run museums and galleries to join, provide digital access to their collections, and contribute to digital communities.
