Nancy Ip (simplified Chinese: 叶玉如; traditional Chinese: 葉玉如; pinyin: Yè Yùrú; born 30 July 1955) is a Hong Kong biologist. She is a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the World Academy of Sciences.[1][2] She is a professor at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and Dean of the School of Science of HKUST.[1][2]
Biography
Nancy Ip was born in British Hong Kong on July 30, 1955, with her ancestral home in Taishan, Guangdong. She is the youngest of six children.[2]
She received her Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry and Bachelor of Biology degrees from Simmons College in 1977.[2] And she earned a doctorate in pharmacology from Harvard University Medical School in 1983.[2] After graduation, she spent the early part of her scientific career in the USA, and was Senior Staff Scientist at Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc., New York.[1][3]
She became a professor at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology since 1993.[4]
She was elected a fellow of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2001.[5]
In 2004, she received the L'Oréal-UNESCO Awards for Women in Science Award at the 6th Annual L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Awards.[2][6]
Personal life
Nancy Ip and her husband have a son and a daughter.
