Narnaund (Urdu: نارنَونٛد ) is an emerging city on Hansi–Chandigarh highway and a municipal committee in Hisar district in the Indian state of Haryana. The city Hansi is approximately 22 km away and another city Jind is 25 km. Narnaund is famous for its 'Main Bazar' as people from adjacent villages used to go there for purchases. The market has now developed to outer regions of the city also. Narnaund has famous Devraj-Mandir where people flock in large numbers on ekadasi.The important villages surrounding Narnaund are Moth Rangran, Moth Karnail Sahib, Majra, Madha, Lohari, Rajthal, Khanda Kheri, Baas and Petwar.

Famous Bollywood and Hollywood Actress Mallika Sherawat (Reema Lamba) belongs to Moth village. Students from nearby villages come to many private schools and Sr. Sec. gov. school for pursuing their education.

Politics

Narnaund is a political aware constituency. For many years, this constituency has been seen as anti-Congress seat. Chaudhary Virender Singh was MLA from Narnaund from 1977 to 1996 and won four consecutive legislative assembly elections. Virender Singh was also cabinet minister in Haryana thrice. In 2009 assembly election, the seat reflected a three-way contest between the sitting MLA (RK Gautam), Saroj Mor and Abhimanyu but was won easily by Saroj Mor with a margin of 10,000 plus votes, with RK Gautam on second spot and Captain Abhimanyu at third.

Rameshwar Dutt was the first MLA from Narnaund assembly constituency in 1967 in Haryana state. Joginder Singh became MLA in 1968 and 1972 assembly elections. Virender Singh won elections in 1977, 1982, 1987 and 1991. Jaswant Singh (1996), Ram Bhagat Sharma (2000), Ram Kumar Gautam (2005) also represented Narnaund assembly constituency in Haryana Vidhan Sabha. Saroj Mor (2009) is at present MLA from Narnaund. In 2014 Assembly Elections, there is a tough fight between Captain Abhimanyu of BJP, Raj Singh Mor of INLD and Ram Kumar Gautam (Independent).

Narnaund falls under Hisar parliament constituency. In 2014 Lok sabha elections, Dushyant Chautala becomek MP from this seat.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census,[2] Narnaund had a population of 15,114. Males constitute 54% of the population and females 46%. Narnaund has an average literacy rate of 57%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 67%, and female literacy is 44%. In Narnaund, 15% of the population is under 6 years of age.According to 2011 census, population of narnaund had increased 1.32%. the population counted 17,242 in 2011.

Economy

Primarily, Narnaund is an agriculture-based region where more than 80% people earn their livelihood via agriculture or related profession. This tehsil has a large anaaj mandi, and ever developing market along the highway.
