Nasrul Hamid (Bipu) (Bengali: নসরুল হামিদ (বিপু), born November 13, 1964). He is a member of the Bangladesh Awami League Party & is two times Member of Parliament. He is the current State Minister for the Ministry of Power, Energy, Mineral Resources of the Government of People's Republic of Bangladesh.He is elected from his ancestral area of Dhaka-3 (South Keranigonj).

Education

Nasrul Hamid achieved his 'Bachelor of Arts' degree from University of Dhaka in Dhaka, Bangladesh. He completed the Certificate Program on Leadership from the John F. Kennedy School at University of Harvard in Boston, USA.

Political & Professional career

Nasrul Hamid started his political career at a young age. He has made his way up from the ground through the mechanism of The Awami League. He was the Secretary of Keranigonj Upzilla from 1994 to 2001. In 1997, he became the Assistant Secretary of The Awami League & held that position for 12 years. From 2001-2013, he acted as the Vice President of the The Awami League, Dhaka Zilla Branch. He became a Member of Parliament after securing a victory in the 9th National General Election from Dhaka-3. In 2014, he was elected for the second time & was honored with the post of State Minister for the Ministry of Power, Energy & Mineral Resources.[1]

Besides Political activities, Nasrul Hamid is a successful businessman & a reputed philanthropist. He is the Chairman of Hamid Group.[2] He was a former President of Real Estate & Housing Association of Bangladesh[3] & Director of Abahani Sporting Club Ltd.

Family

Nasrul Hamid was born into a politically active family. His father, late Hamidur Rahman was the treasurer of The Awami League before the liberation war of Bangladesh & later was elected as a member of parliament. He was a close associate of the father of nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. His mother, late Hasna Hamid was also politically involved with The Awami League.
