Natalia Vieru (Russian: Наталья Станиславовна Виеру; born 25 July 1989 in Chisinau, Moldova)[1] is a Moldavian/Russian professional basketball player. She plays for Russia women's national basketball team[2] She also competed in the 2012 Summer Olympics. Apart from the national team she plays for the Russian club UMMC Ekaterinburg as a center. UMMC Ekaterinburg was one of the most successful russian clubs in the last few years.
National team
With her impressive height of 2.00 m (6 ft 7 in) she is currently the tallest player in the Russian national team (2015/2016).[3] In 2012 she participated in the Summer Olympic Games in London (4th place). For the Olympic games 2016 in Rio the Russian women basketball team unfortunately did not qualify. This was the first time since a boycott in 1984 that the women team could not qualify for the Olympic games. The reason was a 6th place in the Eurobasket tournament in 2015 which served as the qualifying tournament for the european basketball teams.
