National Art Gallery of Namibia
The National Art Gallery of Namibia (NAGN) is an institution for art and culture of the government of Namibia and is situated in Windhoek, Namibia. Its aims are to encourage and cultivate art in Namibia.
In the National Art Gallery of Namibia there is a permanent exhibition of international recognition showing Namibian, African and European art. The Gallery shows also local art. Hercules Viljoen – former Professor and Head of Department in Visual and Performing Arts at the University of Namibia – is the director at the moment.
Vision and Mission
- Vision: "To be the leading institution for celebrating, collecting, preserving, exhibiting and researching visual art and craft, as a component of our national identity, cultural heritage and human connectedness."
- Mission: "To provide dedicated space and human capacity for the exhibition, appreciation, acquisition, conservation, preservation and research of visual art and craft. To encourage the formation of a Namibian, African and global consciousness of the value of visual art and craft for the continued development of humankind."
