National Centre for Technology in Education

The National Centre for Technology in Education (NCTE) is an Irish government agency established in 1998 to facilitate the development, funding and use of information and communications technologies in education in the Republic of Ireland. NCTE blocks several websites under the following categories: Pornography, Malware sites, Spam URL's, Spyware sites, Personal blogs and sites, sites with adware or keyloggers, sex and dating sites, other sites unsuitable for children or that may mean harm to the PC etc. Some sites may be listed as "unknown" which is annoying to users not knowing what the site's category.

For an Irish school that wants to create a Wi-Fi connection for their computers, they must first install NCTE via the website. A normal home PC cannot install NCTE.
