The National Counter Terrorism Authority (reporting name: NACTA) is an internal counterterrorism intelligence agency and the tactical special weapons law enforcement force which uses military-style light weapons and specialized tactics in high-risk operations that fall outside of the capabilities of regular and uniformed police.[1] The NACTA is designed to assessed difficult situations and to confront heavily armed criminals; performing hostage rescue and armed counter-terrorism operations; high risk arrests; and entering armored or barricaded buildings.[1]

In addition, it is mandated to devise a counter-terrorism strategy that should address short, medium and long-term goals and devise action plans for their implementation.[2][3]

NACTA was initially set up in 2009, but its power has been greatly increased in March 2013.[4] The NACTA 2013 Act sets up the framework of the organization.[5]
