The National Division One is a league for shinty teams. It restarted in 2014 having been in abeyance since 2006.

It is the second tier of the Shinty league system. National Division One was initially formed in 1999 but was abandoned in 2006. Its reinstatement for 2014 was not without controversy due to opposition from several clubs, but led by Skye Camanachd.

In 2016, the following teams make up the division.


History

Between 1999 and 2005, there was a National Division One which had relegation and promotion to the Premier Division. In 2005, with complaints regarding the expense of travel. National Division One was reinstated for the 2014 season.

The 2015 season saw both Fort William and Oban promoted to an expanded Premiership, which then saw Bute decide to drop out the league into the regional South league. Inverness, who had finished bottom of North One were promoted, in lieu of any other team wishing to step up. On the eve of the season, Glenorchy pulled out of the league, leaving a rump of seven teams.

Relegation of the bottom club will be to the relevant North or South Division One
