Launched on 5 December 2011, Nautical Channel is the only international 24/7 nautical sports and lifestyle channel in the world. The channel caters to a local and worldwide audience and was founded by Andrew Miller and Laurence Fox Hopper.

Nautical Channel is available to over 20 million subscribers in 44 countries in English, French, German, and Russian. It is on over one hundred international pay TV, satellite, subscriber IpTV, mobile phone, Digital Terrestrial, MMDS and cable TV platforms.

Nautical Channel has assembled the largest ever group of international nautical TV producers in order to provide viewers with the best sports and lifestyle programming, explained by experts in a clear and simple way for all levels of boating expertise. The award winning programming reaches a well defined audience, but also has a broad general public appeal.

Sailing and boating sports make up over half the programming and have become more popular than ever, thanks to the enthusiasm generated by competitions such as the America's Cup World series, Vendée Globe, H2O power boating and Volvo Ocean Race, among others. The programming wheel covers over twenty interest areas. Everything from boating sports (power and sailing) to news, travel, adventure, yachting, surfing, on board interviews, shipyards, equipment, undersea wrecks, and a lot more.

Nautical Channel has a unique relationship with the nautical world. Special relationships exist with sporting events, teams, boat builders, boat shows, sailing and boating clubs and viewers worldwide in order to always bring you the latest boating sports and entertainment.

On 24 March 2016, Canadian media Company Ethnic Channels Group made an application with the CRTC that was quickly approved to add Nautical Channel to the Canadian airways sometime in 2016. They described the channel as being 90% English and 10% French which would cause the channel to be viewed in all parts of the country.[1]
