The Nebraska Cornhuskers represent the University of Nebraska–Lincoln in bowling. The program started out as a club sport along with men's bowling, but became a varsity sport in 1996 and an official NCAA sport in 2003. The Cornhuskers have established themselves as a powerhouse, winning the first two NCAA championships and three out of the first six. The Huskers have never been ranked lower than 8th place since bowling has become an NCAA sport. They have won five national championships, finished runner-up three times, tied for third place three times and tied for seventh place.

        History

Bowling has been an official varsity sport at Lincoln since the 1996–1997 season. Before bowling became a varsity sport, it was a club sport coached by Bill Straub who led the club team to two national IBC titles in 1991 and 1995. Straub was hired as the full-time bowling coach and has led the team to three more IBC titles in 1997, 1999 and 2001. In 2003, the NCAA created a tournament for Women’s bowling and the Nebraska Women’s Bowling team has been one of the top college bowling teams since the start of NCAA competition, which the Huskers won the first two national titles in a row, came in third place during the third NCAA tournament and have won three of the first six NCAA tournaments. They added their NCAA-best fifth title in 2015. The Huskers have been ranked in the top 5 teams since 1990 and have never been ranked below 17th place. The Huskers can be seen bowling at the East Campus Bowling Lanes.

        2015-2016 season

The Huskers began the 2015-2016 season ranked no. 1, as they received 17 out of a possible 25 first place votes according to the NTCA Preseason Poll. They were never ranked below no. 4 and finished the 2015-2016 season no. 1. They won three tournaments (Kat Klash, Prairie View A&M for the fourth year in a row, Warhawk Invitational), as well as two of three one day tournaments as hosts of the Big Red Invitational. They received their 13th at-large bid to the 2016 NCAA Bowling Championships, continuing a streak of never missing the NCAA Bowling Championships. They reached the final for the fourth year in a row, but lost in seven games to Stephen F. Austin in a rematch of the 2015 finals.
