Nebularia is a name used for a group of predatory sea snails, marine gastropod mollusks within the genus Mitra. This name was originally proposed as a subgenus, but the validity of this name as a taxon is questionable. Mitra (Nebularia) Swainson, 1840 is considered by the authoritative database WoRMS to be an "alternative representation" of Mitra Lamarck, 1798.[1] The type species of this subgenus is Mitra coronata Swainson, 1820

Commentary

In 1991, Cernohorsky considered that the subgenus Nebularia does not form a well-defined group.[2]

In 2001, Thorsson and Salisbury used the tern Nebularia as a group (and not as a valid taxonomic name), for species related to the type species Mitra coronata.[3]
