History

Neo Steam: The Shattered Continent was designed by Korean developers Joy Impact, and was localized for the global English market by Atlus.[1] The open beta was announced on May 27, 2009.[2]

The European version of Neo Steam did not have the success expected and was closed on February 28, 2011 at 5:00AM.[3] The North American version was similarly closed on February 8, 2012.[4]

Gameplay

Character creation

When the player first begins the game, they are given the option to choose from two nations, the Kingdom of Elerd and the Republic of Rogwel. This decision applies to all characters created under that account from then on. The player then chooses a race human, elf, tarune or lupine (depending on the nation that the player chose at the beginning), pom, lyell or Taxn human. The player also chooses a class; warrior, mystic, machinist or scout. The player can also slightly modify how the character looks.

Pet creation

Each player acquires a "spirit pet" during character creation. The pet acts initially as a guide, and eventually as battle support. After a certain level, the player may evolve the pet for a specialty, either combat, healing, or stealing. The pet can be leveled up through the acquisition of items, and it will then be more effective in whatever trait the player has chosen it for. The pet may be reset to the initial pet form, where it can then be re-evolved into a different specialization.

Modes of transportation

Players can travel on foot, or acquire steam-based machines and vehicles for faster movement.Steam-based machines in this game such as steam balloons, subways, submarines, zeppelins and cannons. Some transportation may cost neo-steam and some cost gold. (main in-game currency)[5]
