Dock preview of Linux Netrunner 13.12

Netrunner is a free operating system for Intel and AMD based desktop computers, laptops and netbooks. It comes in two versions: The Main version is Kubuntu-based Linux and released in sync with Kubuntu's release schedule, while Rolling is Manjaro-based (and therefore an Arch derivate) and released as so called rolling release snapshots. Both versions feature a highly customised KDE desktop with extra applications, multimedia codecs, Flash and Java plugins, and the same look and feel. The modifications are designed to enhance the user-friendliness of the desktop environment while still preserving the freedom to tweak.

Overview

Blue Systems, the company that currently also sponsors Kubuntu,[2] offers Netrunner as a desktop system for everyday use based on Plasma Desktop by KDE. It targets new users as well as users experienced with Linux. Plasma Desktop allows for easy customization of the desktop to ones personal liking. Netrunner is further meant for users that want an operating system that works "out-of-the-box", significantly reducing the time to add codecs and essential enhancements manually after installation.

Since version 4.2, Netrunner has added KDE programs and configuration tools for better integration of web services like Google, Facebook, and ownCloud,[3] which enables users to view, edit and store their data like documents, calendars or other files from within the KDE environment or chat with their Google or Facebook friends directly using Telepathy.

Netrunner Standard and Rolling are available in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions.
