On June 10, 2015, Sarkodie released his first international collaboration New Guy. New Guy featured American hip pop artist Ace Hood.[1]
Background
Sarkodie described New new song is one of the most powerful records on his catalogue and that's why he featured one of the world's most powerful rappers on the song.[2]
Ahead of release
Sarkodie hanged out with fans on 9 April in a studio for a live listening session and first hand premiere of the video to his new song, NewGuy featuring American Rapper, Ace Hood. This was made possible by kind courtesy of TiGO Music/Deezer.[3]
Music video
On June 14, Sarkodie released the music video for new guy. The video was filmed at Florida Film House, Miami Florida. The video was directed by South African director Justin Campos and produced by Candice Lee Campos.[4]
Critical reception
Upon its release, the song was met with mixed to positive reviews from music critics. It received positive reviews from hip hop honesty.[5] Ghanaian music journalist and critic, David Mawuli of Pulse Ghana called New Guy a revolution of African hip hop.[6]
On the contrary, those who opposed the song felt that the song should have a great chorus ; they also thought that the song was over hyped.
