New Jersey Rascals
The New Jersey Rascals are a professional indoor lacrosse team to be based in Trenton, New Jersey. A charter member of the Professional Lacrosse League, they began play in fall 2012,[1] but left to become a charter member of the United States Lacrosse League, which begins play in the fall of 2014. They will play their home games at the Sun National Bank Center. The team was founded by DC Sports & Entertainment, LLC, a sports and entertainment management and consulting firm.
On July 23 the Rascals participated in the league dispersal draft and made Josh Rachman the first ever member of the franchise. In the college draft the next day the team selected many big name American players, including CJ Costabile, Colin Briggs, Chris Bocklet, and Tom Palasek.
On Thursday July 26, 2012 the team held a press conference at the Sun National Bank Center to officially introduce the team and introduce the first head coach of the team, Randy Fraser. Fraser played 11 seasons in the NLL for the Boston Blazers, New York Saints, and Buffalo Bandits. He has served as a defensive coach in the NLL and at an NCAA level.
The team's first game was slated for Friday September 14 against the Reading Rockets and they were to have played a 12-game regular season against the other three members of the Professional Lacrosse League.
The New Jersey Rascals are no longer a member of the Professional Lacrosse League, as they went dormant for the 2012 season. They are now charter members of the newly formed United States Lacrosse League and will begin play in the fall of 2014.[2]
