The New York City Department of Citywide Administrative Services Police (NYC DCAS Police) is a law enforcement agency that provides onsite security services to facilities owned, leased, and/or operated by the New York City Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS), while also enforcing state and city laws at such facilities. Security services at most DCAS facilities are physically handled by contracted private security firms and/or other city Law Enforcement agencies that may be inhabiting such facilities.
History
The New York City Department of Citywide Administrative Services Police (formerly DCAS Law Enforcement) was started in 1996 with approximately 5 peace officers assigned to various DCAS facilities.
DCAS Special Officer's
DCAS Special Officers are law enforcement officers who's duties are to provide security services at DCAS 53 facilities and to protect DCAS' property, employees, tenants and members of the public. The DCAS Police consists of less than 30 Officers. DCAS Officers are employed as NYC DCAS Special Officers as per civil service title and New York State Criminal Procedure Law (§2.10 subdivision 40).
Power and Authority
NYC Department of Citywide Administrative Services Special Officers are New York State Peace Officers authorized to make warrantless arrests, issue criminal court summonses, and the power to use physical force.

Equipment
NYC DCAS Special Officers may be permitted to carry firearms with an NYPD pistol permit. They also carry expendable batons, OC spray, handcuffs, and bullet proof vests.

NYC DCAS Special Officers can be promoted to the position of Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Captain provided they take a competitive civil service exam and complete subsequent training courses. Special Officers may also be appointed to the ranks of Deputy Chief and Chief.
