Nicholas 'Nicky' Orr (born 1947) is an Irish retired hurler who played as a full-back for the Kilkenny senior team from 1971 until 1976.

Orr joined the Kilkenny team during the 1971 championship and became a regular player over subsequent seasons. During that time he won two All-Ireland winner's medals, three Leinster winner's medals and one National League winner's medal. In 1974 Orr captained the team to the All-Ireland title.

At club level Orr is Leinster medalist with Fenians. In addition to this he has also won five county club championship winners' medals.

Playing career

Club

Orr played his club hurling with the newly formed Fenians club in Johnstown. In 1970, he played a key role in helping the club to win its first senior county title.[1] Orr and the Fenians contested a total of eight senior county finals between 1969 and 1978, with victories also coming in 1972, 1973, 1974 and 1977. Orr also won a Leinster club title in 1974.

Inter-county

Orr first came to prominence as a member of the Kilkenny senior hurling team in 1973. That year, he won his first Leinster title, however, Kilkenny later lost the All-Ireland final to Limerick. In 1974, Orr was appointed captain of the Kilkenny senior hurling team and he quickly added a second Leinster medal to his collection. ‘The Cats’ later gained revenge on Limerick by defeating them in the championship decider, giving Orr is first All-Ireland medal. In 1975, Kilkenny completed a two-in-a-row, giving Delaney his third Leinster medal and his second All-Ireland medal following a victory over surprise finalists Galway. 1976 finally saw Kilkenny beaten in the Leinster Championship, however, Orr did win a National Hurling League title at the start of the year. His inter-county hurling career came to an end shortly afterwards.
