Nikita Igorovich Zaitsev (Russian: Никита Игоревич Зайцев; born October 29, 1991) is a Russian professional ice hockey defenceman who currently plays for the Toronto Maple Leafs of the NHL.[1] He was a first round selection in the 2009 KHL Junior Draft, chosen 4th overall, and made his KHL debut with HC Sibir Novosibirsk a few months later. On May 2nd, 2016, he signed a one-year entry level deal with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Zaitsev and the Maple Leafs had been rumored to have been in talks for over one year before his contract was signed.
