Non-event

A non-event is an anticipated or highly publicized event that either does not occur or turns out to be anticlimactic, boring, or a hoax.[1] Non-events tend to be disappointing because they are often hyped prior to their occurrence.

Other uses

In psychology, non-events refer to actual omissions in a series of similar stimuli, i.e. absences or non-appearances.
