North Dakota Highway 5 (ND 5) is a mostly two-lane and 337-mile (542 km) long eastwest highway the touches the northern border of the state and is never farther than about 17 miles south of the Canadian border. The eastern terminus is located about four miles (6 km) east of Joliette at the Red River where the highway continues as Minnesota State Highway 175. The western terminus is at North Dakota's western border about 12 miles (19 km) west of Fortuna where the highway transitions to Montana Highway 5.
