North Mahaska Community School District

North Mahaska Community School District is located in New Sharon, IA. The North Mahaska district includes the towns of New Sharon, Barnes City, Taintor and Lacey. North Mahaska serves nearly over 500 students in grades kindergarten through 12.

North Mahaska is a member of the South Iowa Cedar League, and its sports mascot is the Warhawks. North Mahaska has been very successful in athletics in recent years. Boys track won the class 1A state championship in 1990. The football team has one state championship in Class A in 2005. They were Class A runners-up in 1989, 1995 and 2004. They have qualified for the state playoffs in class A and 1A several years. In volleyball, they were state runners-up in 2004 and qualified for the state tournament in 2003. In boys basketball, they qualified for the state tournament in 1998, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006, winning the state 1A championship in 2005. The softball team qualified for the state 1A tournament in 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2009. The baseball team qualified for the state tournament in 2005. The girls basketball team participated in the 2011 state tournament. They won the Iowa Girls 1A State Basketball Championship in 2012.

North Mahaska's Jazz Band has won the 2009, 2011, and 2012 Class 1A State Championships. The Co-ed Dance team won the state small school division in 2012.
