North Side High School is one of the five public high schools in the city of Jackson, Tennessee (the others being South Side High School, Jackson Central-Merry High School, Liberty Technology Magnet High School, Madison Academic Magnet High School). Within the state, the school is commonly known as Jackson North Side.

History

In 1943, what is now called the South Building was completed and North Side was formed with the consolidation of Huntersville, Pope, Fairview, Browns Church, and Spring Creek schools. In 1972, the football stadium was completed. East High consolidated with North Side in 1970, and Beech Bluff in 1977. In 1992, Jackson City and Madison County school systems were combined. In that year, the Tech Prep Center (middle building) was completed, and the following year the Fine Arts Building was completed.

School Mascot

The school mascot is the Indian. The school colors are blue and gold. The stadium is also known as "The Reservation", it is dedicated and named after long time North Side coach, T.D. Reynolds.

Student Council

Advisors: Jason Eckford

Purpose: Student Council at North Side recognizes student leaders for their outstanding efforts and achievements in representing their peers and giving voice to student concerns. They meet monthly for the purpose of discussing plans and growth for the school. At the meetings they also discuss student concerns and ideas. Other meetings are scheduled as needed for planning and organizing student activities.

Requirements for admission: 2.5 GPA, No referrals, Petition w/25 supporters.

Activities: Increase school motivation, and adopt a major fundraising activity. In the past seven years North Side's Council has raised over $2,000 each year for Relay For Life. This year student council is working with RIFA and other organizations to help with their needs.

North Side High School participates in the following sports:

North Side High School is the home of boys state basketball tournament teams and all-time leading scorer Leshun Holmes (2,386 points)and former Ole Miss star, Marcus Hicks, 2nd all-time leading scorer (2,024 points). They are the only two players to have scored 2,000 points and have jerseys retired at North Side High School. Other notable basketball alumni are Richard and Reginald Delk (nephews of NBA great, Tony Delk) and Drew Woods, a 3-time NAIA All-American at Bethel College (Tennessee) who was selected in the 2006 NBA Development League Draft.

From 2003-2007, the women's basketball team at North Side made 4 straight state tournaments with key players like Sha Brooks, Danielle Spencer, Gwen Delk, LaVanda Ross, Sequoyah Cliff, and Amber Penn. Out of those tournaments they made the championship game only once. The women's basketball team also made the girl's state tournament in 1984,1987,1988 and 1992.The 1988 team was ranked 25th in the nation during that year.During the 1980s,Kristen Goehring was a High School All American,All State and All State Tournament.Shea Piercey and Angelia Godwin were honorable mention High School All Americans,All State and All State Tournament.Kristen Goehring was Academic All American at Ole Miss.In the late 1990s Genvieve Delk,Leanne Davidson,Tiffany Fisher and Candice Holiday led North Side to the Girls State Basketball Tournament. Sylvester Hicks played football and basketball for North Side in the early 70's and later starred in football for Tennessee State University and the Kansas City Chiefs(NFL).

In men's soccer, North Side was the first public school, from Jackson, Tennessee, to make the Class AA state soccer tournament. They lost to Chattanooga Christian in the quarterfinals 3-2.
