Nutri Ventures (also known as Nutri Ventures – The Quest for the 7 Kingdoms) is a Portuguese TV series produced by the Nutri Ventures Corporation that is distributed through Hulu Kids.[1] The show puts an emphasis on healthy eating habits for children and adults and in 2009 the Nutri Ventures Corporation signed a deal with Partnership for a Healthier America to show episodes of Nutri Ventures in North American classrooms.[2] Nutri Ventures is set in a city where the only available food source is a strange chemical named "Genex 100", forcing its main characters to search out healthier food options.[3]
The show is aired in 23 countries, is targeted towards children between the ages of four to ten, and promotes itself as the first children's show to be created "from scratch to promote healthy eating to combat childhood obesity".[4]
Synopsis
The show follows Theo, Lena, Ben, and Nina, four friends that live in a city where food doesn't exist and all citizens are forced to eat Genex-100, a high calorie compound available only via the Grand Corporation. Things have been like this ever since Alex Grand, owner of the Grand Corporation, ordered all alternative food sources destroyed thirty years ago. He did not succeed in fully destroying all other food options, as the nutritionist Nexus helped preserve seven food groups by enlisting seven Nutri- Guardians with the task of hiding and protecting these foods from Alex's wrath. As the children seek out these seven Nutri- Guardians and try new, healthier food options, they must still defend themselves and the foods from Alex and the Grand Corporation, who want them permanently destroyed. Things are made somewhat easier after the children eat the foods and experience various benefits of healthy eating.
Characters
Heroes
Theo
The main protagonist and the grandson of Guardian Purple. A heroic, yet stubborn, 13-year-old who grows less selfish as the series progresses. Despite being related to Guardian Purple, he is completely unaware of the seven food groups until the first episode of the series, and remains in the dark about much of the conflict. He is heavily implied to have feelings for Lena, and responds with anger and jealousy when he believes she has feelings for Sid.
Lena
Lena acts as the "brains" of the group. She often becomes serious and becomes the slightly strict one to Theo. As the series progresses, Lena frequently summon the food that are carried, since they discover some of the Nutri-Kingdoms. In some frames, Len acts as an "older sister" to Nina.
Ben
Ben is an obese boy who is a known friend for Theo. He is best known as a glutton, because he adores his eating habits. However, Ben seems to be a wimp, but has a soulful trust and heart on his friends.
Nina
She is Theo’s younger sister. Although Nina is the youngest, she seems to take advantage of her skills to help the gang.
Guga Purple
The protagonist group's loyal and playful mascot, Guardian Purple's Guga, and Nina's companion. If feeding Guga Purple some food, he will transform into a larger size. Guga Purple represents as the main face of the series.
Guardian Purple
Theo and Nina's grandfather, who used to be one of the Guardians of the Nutri-Kingdoms. It's unknown what kind of theme he has, but he remains in Grandland and separates himself from the Genex-100 Industries.
Nexus
The leader and mentor of the Nutri-Guardians. He was then deceased, before his soul becomes teleported into Guga's hologram effects.
Murdock
Alex’s deceased father who is the founder of the Nutri-Genex Corporation, and an excellent expert of nutrition. Before he died, his fortune of the future seeks that the foods will never exist, so he wisely charged Nexus to protect their future.
Antagonists
Alex Grand
The main antagonist. Alex Grand is an ignorant, selfish, and vile billionaire and founder of the Genex-100 Industries, who demolished every food that the citizens never know.
Nose
Alex Grand’s doting assistant. He tries to be like Alex Grand, but his dorkness and weakness proves it. Nose's weakness is that he is lactose intolerant.
G-Squads
Alex Grand’s ogre-looking minions.
Supporting characters
Nutri Guardians
They are the top scientists who worked with Nexus in Nutri-Genex. In order to save the foods and the chapters of the Grand Book of Nutrition, they escaped to faraway places and set up the Seven Kingdoms of Nutrition: Yellow (Grains), White (Milk and Dairy Products), Red (Meat and Eggs), Blue (Fish and Sea Food), Brown (Legumes), Green (Vegetables) and Orange (Fruit).
Gugas
They are sweet bio-electronic pets created by Nexus to allow him to communicate with the Nutri- Guardians and the heroes. Each Guga has a color corresponding to his Nutri- Guardian and, ironically, the opposite personality.
