History

Oak Futures Ltd was formed in 2009 by Steve J. Roberts, CEO and Julian B. Cowley, COO. Phil Glover, Director and Senior Energy Trader later joined to become part of the core Management Team and Structure at Oak Futures Ltd. The firm was founded in 2009 by Steve J. Roberts and Julian B. Cowley; former International Petroleum Exchange traders in London. Since the firms creation, Oak Futures now has over 150 employees worldwide and is one of the largest energy focussed proprietary trading firms (recognised by exchange traded volume) in the City of London.

Description

The firm's business areas incorporate proprietary trading and electronic market making, and specializes in the trading of Commodity Futures and Commodity Options across multiple electronic exchanges including Chicago Mercantile Exchange, NYMEX, IntercontinentalExchange and NYSE Euronext. In total the firm has connectivity to over 70 global electronic futures exchanges through multiple trading platforms including those from Trading Technologies, IntercontinentalExchange, Stellar Trading Systems and CQG.

The firm specialises in Energy Trading Products predominantly Brent Crude Oil, West Texas Intermediate Crude Oil, Gas Oil, Oman Crude Oil, Emissions and Heating Oil.

Office Locations

Oak Futures Ltd Headquarters is based in the City of London, until December 2012 the firm was based at Bishopsgate, however as of January 2013 the firm is now based near London Wall. The firm also has regional offices in Sevenoaks, Kent & Bishops Stortford, Hertfordshire. The firm also reviewed opening an office in Newcastle Upon Tyne in 2011.[1] In May 2013, Oak Futures opened their 4th UK office location in Bromley, Kent.

Operations

The firm utilises ULL (Ultra Low Latency) feeds from multiple electronic exchanges located worldwide. These ULL feeds power their trading technology applications providing DMA (Direct Market Access) coverage across the globe. All products and exchange connectivity is supported by a London-based Electronic Trading Support team.

Charity Work

Oak Futures Ltd has worked very close with charitable organisations including Futures for Kids, Born to be Beautiful and Compassion. The firm also participates annually in Movember raising significant amounts for Cancer Research. Several traders from the London Office participated in the 2012 Futures for Kids football tournament (Featuring companies such as Deutsche Boerse, Marex Spectron and the LME) which in total raised £2,600.00 for charity.[2] The firm also had a presence at the Futures for Kids 'Poker Evening' in March 2011 which in total raised £13,000.00 for charity.[3]
