Obert Skye is an American children's writer known for the Leven Thumps series and the Pillage Trilogy.[1] He has also written several other novels that include The Creature from My Closet, Witherwood Reform School, and The Lord of the Hat.

Obert Skye is a pen name, and there have been some theories as to who Skye's real identity is. He answers to Obert Skye, signs it in all his books, and when asked in an interview if it was his real name he said “Sure, why not?…I would never admit to it not being my name.”[2] But no one really knows for sure. There has been some speculation that Skye is really LDS author Robert Farrell Smith, but again, such speculations have been found only in blog post comments and in various corners of the Internet.[3]

Skye places great emphasis on the imagination in his novels and on discovering the impossible in the mundane. Even the Obert Skye pen name, which is used to further "research" on the world of Foo in Leven Thumps and the existence of dragons in Pillage, is “all about imagination” and “thinking bigger and beyond the books.”[4] Imagination is one of the most powerful things in the world, according to Skye. “What doesn’t it make better?” he asks. “It makes school better; it makes problems better. Imagination makes life more textured; it’s a vehicle that opens your mind to the impossible.”[5]
