Omar Abdel Hamid El-Hussein (born September 11, 1992 in Vordingborg, died February 15, 2015 in Copenhagen)[3][4] was a danish-palestinian, who grew up in Copenhagen and was a son of palestinian parents, who had stayed in a refugeecamp in Jordan, prior to seeking asylum in Denmark.[5][6]

He was killed by Politiets Aktionsstyrke (the special response unit of the Danish police) after he was designated as a possible suspect for the 2015 Copenhagen shootings.[7] The police later found evidence of his presence at Krudttønden in the form af DNA - traces.[8]

History

He did very well in school, and was admitted to HF at VUC in Hvidovre.[5][6] He also had a talent for the combat sport, Muay Thai and won the tournament, Rising Starz in 2010.[6]

Crime

El-Hussein was involved in violent crime- and gang activity and became wanted and described as dangerous by the police in 2013, after an episode at Ny Ellebjerg Station, where he committed unprovoked assault against an unknown person.

The incident meant that he was later convicted for violence, and was imprisoned until he was released around the beginning of February 2015.[6]

The 2015 Copenhagen Shootings

Two weeks before the 2015 Copenhagen Shootings on the 14th and 15 February, Omar Abdel Hamid El-Hussein was released from prison.[5][6][9][10][11][12]

Mainly as a result of video surveillance of the area, El-Hussein was identified by the police as a suspected perpetrator of the shootings in Copenhagen, where he killed Finn Nørgaard and Dan Uzan, and wounded six policemen. After an intensive search, he was up the tracked down and killed by the special response unit of the Danish police (Politiets Aktionsstyrke) in connection with a shootout, on the 15th outside Svanevej 1 in Nørrebro.

On February 20, he was buried in the Muslim graveyard in Brøndby.[13]
